The Pelicans issued a big Zion Williamson return update.

Williamson, the top overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, has still not seen a second of regular season action.

After a solid showing during the NBA preseason the former Duke star was shelved due to a torn right lateral meniscus.

The initial time table for his return was supposed to be six or so weeks.

On Monday, New Orleans head coach Alvin Gentry announced that Williamson is making steady progress, but that he is not yet ready to return.

Today marks 6 weeks since Zion’s surgery,” tweeted out ESPN reporter Andrew Lopez.

“Alvin Gentry says the No. 1 pick is ‘itching’ to get back on the court but he has not started on-court activities yet. Team being overly cautious.”

Williamson put up 23 points per game in the preseason and looked like a force in the making.

The 6-14 pelicans entered the season with a ton of hype, but injuries have ravaged the young team.
