Are the Lakers trading Talen Horton-Tucker for JJ Redick?

Los Angeles is arguably the league’s best team so far this season. Through 18 games the Lakers are currently 16-2 and have looked very dominant in a lot of those wins.

Unfortunately, an impressive early-season record is not why LA mortgaged the future to acquire Anthony Davis. That was done to compete for a title, and it is debatable as to whether this team as presently constructed is going to win one.

Although they have done fairly well for themselves over the first 18 games of the season, the Lakers’ two losses underscore the two biggest issues with their record.

First and foremost, the quality of competition LA has faced thus far has been subpar. That is not a slight against the team, as you can only play who is in front of you. But it does put the record in some perspective.

Secondly, that second loss, which came against the Toronto Raptors, was in large part due to the fact that the Lakers are not a good three-point shooting team. It is literally Danny Green or bust.

LA currently ranks 21st in three pointers made per game.

The Lakers need some three-point shooting, and Redick could be just what the doctor ordered in that regard.

The New Orleans Pelicans are a young team on the rebuild, and a veteran presence like Redick is not really necessary what they are trying to do.

He is great in a role as a veteran on a team like the Philadelphia 76ers that is right on the cusp of competing for a title, but on the Pelicans, his talents are wasted.

The Lakers could offer up some combination of Horton-Tucker and either Quinn Cook or KCP in exchange for Redick, plus certain financial and draft sweeteners. That would allow both teams to come out of this as winners.
