Patrick Mahomes’ Blunt Thoughts On Chiefs Trading Tyreek Hill

Patrick Mahomes’ Blunt Thoughts On Chiefs Trading Tyreek Hill

The Kansas City Chiefs got rid of one of Patrick Mahomes’ best weapons this offseason when they traded Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins.

Given that Mahomes struggled at times in 2021-22 and was hoping for a more consistent run next season, many immediately wondered what his thoughts on the matter were.

Hill received a five-year, $142.5 million contract from the Dolphins after the the trade. The response offered by both him and his girl largely spoke for itself.

How Mahomes felt it about it, though, was something of a mystery.

Until now.

“Obviously my initial reaction was a little bit of shock even though you knew that this was a possibility,” Mahomes said recently.

“But you’re happy for him,” Mahomes continued. “He got a great contract and obviously he’s back where he has a house in the offseason and around a lot of his family and stuff like that. I wish the best for him.”

After Hill got dealt, the Chiefs went out and added wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes Scantling.

“For me, it was, ‘We got to keep rolling.’ It’s how it is in this league,” Mahomes stated.

“It’s as much a business as much as it is about your friendships and stuff like that. So, we know in order to have success in this league you have got to evolve and keep getting better. I got with these new receivers as quickly as possible and try and build that so we can have success when we get going this year.”

This isn’t the first time Mahomes has spoken out on the Hill trade, though he was far more unfiltered this time around.

Mahomes has had a big offseason. Between getting married and going wild with his new bride at Coachella, it has been a nonstop roller coaster of events.

It will be interesting to see what the 2022-23 NFL season holds for him.

Will he miss having Hill out there on the field to throw to? Time will tell.
