The Notre Dame vs Iowa State winner is clear, says an expert.

Coming into this college football season, expectations were high for Brian Kelly and the Fighting Irish.

Despite having a tough schedule ahead of them, many thought they could be in contention for a College Football Playoff spot.

Ultimately, that did not end up coming to fruition.

Notre Dame was solid all year long, but the program struggled with most of the truly tough teams they faced.

Ultimately when it was all said and done, a 10-win season was not enough to earn the Fighting Irish a bid to the New Year’s Six.

Instead, the team will square off against Iowa State in the Camping World Bowl on December 28.

So who will come out of this one victorious? A lot of people are sleeping on Iowa State because they haven’t seen a ton of them, but they are scrappy.

Scrappy enough to defeat Notre Dame?

According to Associated Press national college football writer Ralph Russo, the answer is no.

Russo sees this game being a close one, but when it’s all said and done he sees the Fighting Irish prevailing 28-23.

“The Cyclones pretty much play only close games,” he wrote.

“Nine of their 12 games were decided by 10 points or fewer. Should be a good one.”

Notre Dame is 4-4 in bowl games under Kelly up to this point.
