Sauce Gardner Clears Up the Bizarre Confusion About His Age

Sauce Gardner is tired of the age questions, and he finally addressed them on his own. The Colts cornerback put out a statement clarifying the strange online debate about his actual birth date.

For the past few weeks, NFL Twitter has been arguing about how old Sauce really is. Different databases listed different years. Old high school articles had a different number than his draft profile. Conspiracy theories ran wild. Gardner had enough.

“I’m 25, I’ve always been 25, and the internet needs to relax,” Gardner said in a video posted to his social media. He flashed his ID, made a joke about needing to officially confirm his birthday to NFL fans, and moved on.

How this even became a story is honestly kind of impressive. Sauce was the third overall pick by the Jets in 2022. He’s been one of the most visible defensive players in the league since the moment he stepped onto an NFL field. There is more information about him than about most non-quarterbacks in the sport.

The confusion started when a fan dug up a youth football roster that listed him at a slightly older age than his draft bio. From there it spiraled, with people pointing to old yearbook photos and freshman college articles. None of it actually proved anything, but the internet doesn’t need proof to start a story.

This is the kind of dumb subplot that follows famous athletes around forever once it gets started. There’s a long history of NFL guys having their ages questioned, going all the way back to the days when a few players were actually older than their official records said. The vast majority of those rumors turned out to be nothing.

What’s actually relevant about Gardner right now is that he was traded from the Jets to the Colts last year and has been one of the bright spots on an Indianapolis defense that desperately needed some star talent. He’s still in his prime. He’s still locked up as one of the top cornerbacks in the league. The Colts are paying him accordingly.

The age question would only matter if it were a few years off, which would change how teams value the long-term portion of his contract. A one-year discrepancy doesn’t really change anything from a football standpoint. It’s basically just a fun internet riddle that Sauce got tired of seeing.

His response on the video was actually pretty funny. He told fans they could go back to debating his coverage stats now instead of investigating his birthday. He encouraged people to “stop being weird about my age.” The Colts PR team probably saved the clip for future use.

The funnier subplot is that the age confusion never actually came from anyone in the NFL ecosystem. Coaches, scouts, GMs, none of them have ever raised this question. It’s purely a social media artifact built out of one inconsistent youth football page.

Sauce has bigger things to worry about. The Colts open camp in a few weeks, and he’s going to be the centerpiece of a defense that needs to take a step forward this year. The age stuff is officially behind him. The football tape will speak for itself.

Welcome to the NFL in 2026, where any random detail can turn into a week-long debate.
