Marcus Mariota Has Message For David Carr After Raiders Signing

Marcus Mariota has a message for David Carr after the Las Vegas Raiders signed him this past week.

That message? I am not coming for your job.

Mariota found himself a man without a country after the Tennessee Titans signed Ryan Tannehill to an extension. As a result, he opted to accept the offer extended by the Raiders.

Immediately, many began to wonder if Mariota may be setting himself up to do to Derek Carr what Tannehill did to him last year.

The former Oregon star quickly put that talk to rest this week.

“First and foremost, this is Derek’s team, and I understand that,” Mariota told KHON-TV Hawaii. “I understand that going in.”

Mariota did not come to Las Vegas to steal Carr’s job, he insists, he came because it was the best situation for him.

“For me my priorities going into free agency was to be a part of a team that I felt could bring out the best in me and whatever happens, whatever comes to that, I’m ready for,” he said.

“But I do know that to play starting quarterback in the NFL, to be at that spot is not any easy job to do, and I think when it comes down to it, a strong, stable, supportive quarterback room makes that job a whole lot easier.”

Last year, Mariota threw seven touchdowns and two interceptions before ultimately being replaced by Tannehill.
