The New York Giants made headlines this past week when a massive brawl erupted during Tuesday’s training camp practice.

It all began when tight end Evan Engram decided to fight back after a late hit that was delivered to running back Corey Clement. At that point, safety Logan Ryan smashed Engram from behind. What followed was the rest of the team, including quarterback Daniel Jones, entering the ruckus.

Eventually the melee was broken up and head coach Joe Judge angrily addressed and punished his players. He also made all the participants do roughly 12 minutes of 100-yard wind sprints and two sets of pushups as punishment.

By Thursday, however, it appeared as though the coaching staff had cooled down a bit. In fact, offensive coordinator Jason Garrett wore a shirt to the media session with a single word above the logo: fight.

While brawling is never great, it is a fairly standard part of the NFL training camp experience. It’s also a far better reason to end up in the headlines than photos leaking out of your star players attending a controversial party.

This is going to be a big year for the Giants. Either they’re going to prove a lot of haters wrong and end up much better than expected, or they’re going to struggle badly behind the Washington Football Team and Dallas Cowboys, who appear to be objectively more talented on paper.

Stay tuned – it promises to be an interesting season.
