Jason Garrett Responds To Cowboys Hiring Mike McCarthy

Jason Garrett responded to the Cowboys hiring Mike McCarthy this week.

It was probably the classiest response anyone in the NFL has ever offered for anything.

On Wednesday, McCarthy and team owner Jerry Jones held an introductory press conference.

The pair discussed a number of general plans for the future and took questions from media.

One interesting moment occurred when Jones offered up a story regarding Garrett. More specifically, he described what Garrett said to him when Jones pondered hiring McCarthy.

“You’re not gonna meet anyone more special than Mike,” Garrett told Jones.

There are few truer measures of a person’s character than their response when they face adversity.

Garrett found himself in that situation over the past few weeks, essentially begging to retain his job. And yet, when faced with the opportunity to tear McCarthy down in an effort to build himself up, Garrett refused to do so.

Regardless of what comes next for Garrett, and no matter how anyone feels about his decade-long stint with Dallas, there is no denying that he appears to be a genuinely good human being.

It remains to be seen where Garrett will land next, but the New York Giants were rumored to be looking into him as a potential head coaching candidate before hiring Joe Judge.
