Cleveland Browns Trade Shedeur Sanders In Blockbuster NFL Deal Proposal

The Cleveland Browns have thrust themselves into quarterback controversy discussions after reports surfaced regarding potential trade scenarios involving rookie Shedeur Sanders.
Despite recently promoting Sanders to backup quarterback behind Dillon Gabriel, speculation continues to swirl around the team’s long-term plans for the former Colorado standout.
The Browns currently find themselves in a complex situation with multiple young quarterbacks on their roster while sitting at 1-4 early in the season. Cleveland management faces pressure to evaluate their current talent before the upcoming draft, which features what many consider a strong quarterback class.

The organization’s decision-making process regarding Sanders reflects broader questions about the team’s quarterback development strategy and whether they will retain their current rookies or pursue alternative options through trades or the draft.
Saints’ Quarterback Room Doesn’t Need Another Rookie
The New Orleans Saints currently maintain a quarterback depth chart that makes trading for Shedeur Sanders unlikely. Spencer Rattler holds the starting position despite the team’s early season struggles at 1-4.
Current Saints QB Depth:
- Spencer Rattler – Starting quarterback
- Tyler Shough – Second-round rookie (40th overall pick)
- Limited veteran depth
New Orleans invested significantly in Shough during the draft, selecting him with the 40th overall selection. The Saints passed on Sanders six times before Cleveland selected him in the fifth round, indicating their evaluation placed Shough higher on their board.
Shough has received minimal playing time through the first five games. The Saints show no immediate plans to alter their quarterback rotation unless circumstances force their hand through injury or performance issues.

According to Evan Massey of Newsweek, a win-win blockbuster trade proposal could see Sanders being traded to the Saints.
“While [the Browns trading Sanders] would be a major surprise, the possibility cannot be written off. The Saints have started Spencer Rattler under center. They also have rookie quarterback Tyler Shough on the roster. A chance to acquire another young quarterback could be appealing to them,” he wrote.
Adding Sanders would create an unusual situation with three young quarterbacks competing for development opportunities. Most NFL teams avoid carrying multiple rookie signal-callers due to limited practice repetitions and coaching resources.
Cleveland’s perspective complicates potential trade discussions. The Browns view Sanders as valuable insurance behind their current options. His trade value could increase significantly with strong performances, making any immediate deal counterproductive for Cleveland’s long-term planning.
The Saints’ front office appears committed to evaluating their current roster construction before exploring external additions. Rattler’s continued starts suggest organizational patience with their chosen quarterback path.
