Are Dolphins Trading Ryan Fitzpatrick To Cowboys?
The Miami Dolphins named Tua Tagovailoa their new starting quarterback this week. That means Ryan Fitzpatrick, who had been doing an impressive job as the team’s starter through six weeks, is now the hottest available name on the trade market.
So far, Fitzpatrick has recorded 1,535 yards (good for 12th in the league) and 10 touchdowns (10th in the league) on a 70.1 completion percentage (5th in the league). His 255.8 yards per game is the second-best mark of his 16-year career. He could seemingly make an immediate impact if he landed with the right roster. The question is simply: which is the right roster?
Shortly after Tagovailoa was named Miami’s starter, multiple people began linking Fitzpatrick to the Dallas Cowboys.

The appeal here is clear. As evidenced by the Cowboys’ collapse against the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football this past week, Andy Dalton is not a long-term solution at quarterback. The former Cincinnati Bengals starter completed 62.9 percent of his passes and threw two picks in the losing effort, solidifying once and for all why he was brought on to be a backup and not a starter.
During his weekly appearance 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday morning, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones suggested that his team had all the pieces necessary for success.
“What I do feel good about with the entire group is our ability,” the 78-year-old said.
“We do have the ability and we have the talent to make adjustments with the personnel we have. We just haven’t done it. We will not have success until we take our personnel we got today and put it out there not giving ourselves a big hole to dig out of.”
If Jones truly believes that he has a good roster in place, then it would seem like swapping in a proven productive quarterback would be a wise course of action. After all, the NFC East is in complete disarray and totally winnable at this stage. It’s just a matter of which team will get their you-know-what together first.

The one lingering question that could prevent this deal from happening is whether Dallas’ front office genuinely believes Fitzpatrick is an upgrade over Dalton. He is obviously playing better thus far, but at what point will he revert back to being the guy who has started for eight different teams but never made the playoffs?
Next week Dalton will face off against a Washington Football Team defense that ranks second in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game and eighth in total passing yards allowed. If he has as tough of a day as he did against a considerably worse Cardinals defense, then expect the Fitzpatrick-to-Dallas rumors to start picking up some serious steam.
