Panthers Trading Up, Drafting Tua Tagovailoa
The Panthers are trading up and drafting Tua Tagovailoa, says one ESPN analyst.
NFL insider Marcus Spears appeared on ESPN this week and suggested something of a bold move.
He noted that Carolina would be wise to move up in the looming 2020 NFL Draft and get a young stud quarterback.
That young stud? Tagovailoa.
Tagovailoa has been linked in some capacity to the Miami Dolphins for more than a year.
Miami has the fifth overall selection in this year’s draft, while Carolina has the seventh.
That means if the Panthers want Tagovailoa, they will need to give something up to get him.
“The most interesting one to me is Carolina after Joe Brady just left a college system,” he said.
“If Joe Brady got Tua in this system? These are the conversations we were having — and I keep reiterating this — the same thing we said about Joe Burrow this year, we talked about Tua in the same vain [in 2018],” he continued.
“This was the offensive explosion at Alabama, making all the plays and leading the troops. Joe Burrow went from 16 touchdowns to 60 in one year.
“If Joe Brady and Matt Rhule identifies there’s a possibility for us to get Tua at the first part of our tenure, the Carolina Panthers to me should be the thirsty.”
A lot of people would assume that if Carolina was going to trade up for anyone, it would be for Burrow. What with his connection to Brady and all.
But the presumption is that the Cincinnati Bengals likely will not want to part with the first overall selection.
What makes things really complicated for the Panthers is that the other team between them and Miami, the LA Chargers, also badly needs a quarterback.
So there is a good chance that even Oregon’s Justin Herbert will be off the board by the time they are picking.
With that in mind, if Carolina is looking to upgrade at quarterback heading into next season, trading up would make a lot of sense.

And what makes you think the Panthers have more draft Capital to make that trade happen than the Dolphins do?
