Deion Sanders Left NFL Network Over Money Dispute?
Deion Sanders and the NFL Network went their separate ways this week.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that after helping build the NFL Network into what it is today over the past decade and change, Sanders was walking away.
Initially there were some reports that Sanders’ contract had simply expired. Then additional information began to emerge. Namely, that the 53-year-old was asked to take a pay cut – something that he did not respond warmly to.
“While the network confirmed Sanders’ departure, sources said the two sides could not come to an agreement with NFLN looking for Sanders to take a pay cut from what is surely a seven-plus-figure salary,” Andrew Marchand reported.
“The amount of the cut is unknown.”
The NFL Network did not elaborate much on its split from Sanders, but kept things positive with its statement.
“Deion has been one of the key figures responsible for the growth of the NFL Network,” vice president of communications Alex Riethmiller said.
“We thank him for his work and wish him the best in the future.”
It will be interesting to see where Sanders ultimately ends up. He is one of the most beloved and entertaining personalities in all of sports – but he is also not one to bite his tongue.
I’m not gonna allow someone that I don’t know to affect me ! You don’t matter. My day is just that. It’s my day and I would be a fool to allow u to matter and I don’t even know u. #Truth @bishopojahwar https://t.co/zpdWXLbwFv

That may be a cause for concern for his likeliest potential suitor in ESPN.
Beyond that, with COVID-19 taking a sledgehammer to most media companies’ finances, it is hard to envision him getting the sort of money he wants from anyone else.
