Davante Adams Is Out 6-10 Weeks With a Ruptured Hamstring: What It Means for the 2-4 Rams

Sean McVay said Monday that Davante Adams ruptured his hamstring and is expected to miss six to 10 weeks. For a Los Angeles Rams team sitting at 2-4 and last in the NFC West, that is the difference between a frustrating season and a finished one.

Adams went down on a non-contact play in the fourth quarter on Sunday, pulling up mid-route in the back of the end zone during an 18-16 home loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He limped off and did not return. The Rams were favored by roughly two touchdowns and lost to six Chad Ryland field goals.

He Was Their Best Receiver, Not Their Third Option

Adams is 33 and in his 13th season, and he has been the most productive pass catcher on the roster. Through six games he had 30 receptions for 480 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 16.0 yards a catch, which would be a career best. He led the NFL in receiving touchdowns last season with 14. He is the only Rams pass catcher with more than one touchdown grab in 2026.

Puka Nacua is still here and is still very good, and he missed time early in the season with a groin injury. Behind him the depth chart reads Jordan Whittington, Konata Mumpfield, Tutu Atwell. Matthew Stafford threw for 222 yards on Sunday and the Rams still managed 16 points. Removing the one receiver who stretches a defense does not fix that.

The Timeline Points Past the Bye

Six weeks puts Adams in play for Week 12 at home against Green Bay, the team that drafted him. Ten weeks pushes him toward a December trip to Seattle. The Rams’ bye is Week 11, which is the only reason the short end of that range is even plausible.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Adams is expected to undergo a procedure to clean out the hamstring tendon, with a return targeted around or shortly after the bye. McVay did not confirm a surgery, and the Rams have not announced an injured reserve move, though the timeline makes one a formality this week.

This is also familiar territory. Adams missed three games in 2024 with a hamstring problem, and aggravated his left hamstring in Week 15 of 2025, sitting out the final three regular-season games before returning for the playoffs.

Adams Was Not the Only Casualty

McVay delivered a brutal injury report on Monday. Nose tackle Poona Ford ruptured his triceps and is out for the season. Defensive lineman Kobie Turner is headed to injured reserve with a groin injury. Kicker Blake Grupe suffered a season-ending knee injury while attempting a tackle in his first game with the team. Edge rusher Myles Garrett has been on injured reserve since knee surgery after Week 1.

“The first thing is you feel terrible for these guys,” McVay said. “We’ve taken some shots this year, and we’ve got to be able to get up and keep swinging.”

The Locker Room Is Already Talking

Running back Kyren Williams got 10 carries on Sunday, his fewest of the season. Asked why the offense could not sustain a drive, he said, “Can’t tell you, bro. Probably because I’m not out there.”

That is not the sound of a team absorbing bad luck. McVay said after the game, “We won’t win a game unless we figure out how not to beat ourselves,” and, “I’ve got to do a much better job. There’s nothing positive that I can say about today.”

Los Angeles plays at the Raiders on Sunday. The 49ers are 5-0. The Rams signed Adams in March 2025 on a two-year deal reported in the $44 million to $46 million range, and the version of this roster that made sense with him healthy no longer exists. Six weeks is survivable at 2-4. Ten is not.
