Alvin Kamara Trade Rumors: Saints Prepping to Move on From Longtime Star

New Orleans is quietly preparing to say goodbye to one of its all-time greats. Every signal coming out of the Saints organization points to Alvin Kamara being on the move before the season starts.
The Saints restructured Kamara’s contract earlier this offseason. That was step one. Step two came when they signed Travis Etienne Jr. back in March, essentially bringing in his replacement.
Then came the real tell. Saints GM Mickey Loomis was asked about trading Kamara and didn’t deny interest in moving him. In NFL front office language, that’s a green light.
Kamara has been the face of this Saints offense since 2017. He’s a franchise legend, a fan favorite, and one of the most versatile backs of his generation. But the football business doesn’t care about legacy when the roster is being torn down.
New Orleans is rebuilding, whether they want to admit it publicly or not. Derek Carr is gone, the offensive line is a work in progress, and the coaching staff is trying to figure out what this team is going to be. Holding onto a 29-year-old running back with an expensive contract doesn’t fit that timeline.
The good news for Kamara is that a contender should be lining up to take him. He’s still an elite receiving back, arguably the best pass-catching running back in football when healthy. That skill set doesn’t age the same way pure rushers do.
Think about the teams that could use exactly that. The Bills have been searching for a reliable pass-catching option out of the backfield for years. The Cowboys need a proven veteran to complement their young backs. The Ravens could always use another weapon around Lamar Jackson.
Kamara in a playoff offense would be a nightmare matchup. He can motion out to the slot, he can pass protect, he can break tackles in space, and he understands protections at a level most backs never reach. Any offensive coordinator would love that toolkit.
The Saints won’t get a massive haul for him. A Day 3 pick, maybe a conditional Day 2 selection if he stays healthy and produces. But moving Kamara accomplishes two things New Orleans desperately needs. Cap relief and draft capital.
Etienne is the future of the backfield now. He’s younger, he’s cheaper, and he still has upside to unlock. Pairing him with Kendre Miller gives the Saints a young running back room they can build around while their next quarterback develops.
For Kamara, this is a chance to chase a ring in the back half of his career. He’s put up too many great seasons on too many bad teams. Finishing his career as a role player on a legitimate contender would be a fitting next chapter.
The timing feels right. Training camp is around the corner, and if a trade is going to happen, it needs to happen soon so Kamara can integrate into a new offense. Waiting until midseason kills his value and leaves everyone worse off.
Alvin Kamara deserves a fresh start with a contender. The Saints deserve to keep rebuilding without an aging star soaking up cap space. This move makes sense for everyone involved, and the front office already knows it.
Expect a deal before the regular season kicks off.
