The NFL’s Super Bowl is one of the most important business events of the year for companies in the United States and abroad.
Millions upon millions of dollars are spent on TV ads that last anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute before, during and after the big game.
This past year, CBS reportedly made upwards of $635 million from the ad space sold through four quarters of play. Because the Kansas City Chiefs were ultimately able to send their game against the San Francisco 49ers into overtime, the total revenue generated is likely nearly $700 million.
In overtime alone CBS was able to air 10 additional commercials – resulting in nearly $70 million worth of addition gains.
Although Taylor Swift being visibly disgusted by Jackson Mahomes, the photos of Travis Kelce’s tiny package, and Brittany Mahomes’ wild party photos stole all the Super Bowl-related headlines, it was actually CBS who came out the big winner from the most important sporting event of the year.

While the story of the Super Bowl is always everyone’s favorite ads, it is worth remembering that a lot of commercials have been banned from the event.
Six in particular have achieved legendary status among NFL fans:
Obviously the Durex/Skittles commercial will always be the big attention-grabber from this list.
“I’ll never look at Skittles the same way again,” one commenter wrote.
“I don’t want to taste the rainbow anymore,” another agreed.
“I still remember the Skittles one to this day,” a third person chimed in.

Super Bowl commercials are big business for both the companies buying the ad space and the networks selling it.
This year’s record revenue numbers confirm that nothing is going to change any time soon.
It will be interesting to see what commercials from this year’s batch ultimately stand the test of time and live on online in the years to come.
