The 49ers made a big decision of the Chiefs game on Sunday.

Heading into Super Bowl LIV, San Francisco made an important update regarding passing game coordinator Mike LaFleur.

Mike’s older brother is Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur.

Before this weekend’s Super Bowl LIV showdown against Kansas City, the Niners revealed that they wanted to bring LaFleur back after this season.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, San Francisco has officially signed the 32-year-old to a contract extension that will keep him with the organization.

“49ers’ passing game coordinator Mike LaFleur, who was working on an expiring contract and had been wanted in Green Bay to join his brother Matt, signed a contract extension this postseason with SF, per league source. Now LaFleur isn’t going anywhere; he’s remaining with 49ers,” Schefter wrote.

This is a huge move for the Niners, as LaFleur was rumored to be considering heading to Green Bay and teaming up with his brother.

Shanahan and the LaFleur brothers have something of a shared history.

Mike served as Shanahan’s intern with the Cleveland Browns six years ago and then went with him to the Atlanta Falcons.

There the pair worked with Matt.

Shanahan and Matt’s ties go all the way back to the Houston Texans and Washington Redskins.

Before ultimately ending up with the Packers, Matt served as an offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans.
