49ers Coach Offers Surprising Take On Jimmy Garoppolo
49ers coach Kyle Shanahan offered a surprising take on Jimmy Garoppolo this week.
San Francisco clinched a spot in the Super Bowl on Sunday night with a dominant victory over the Green Bay Packers.
What was interesting about the Niners win was that they relied very, very little on Garoppolo in any capacity.
The victory was almost entirely the byproduct of a historic effort by running back Raheem Mostert and the always potent San Francisco defense.
After the game, Shanahan was asked why Garoppolo only threw the ball eight times while the team rushed the ball 42 times.
Shanahan’s response was short and sweet.
“Because it was working,” he replied.

Mostert had a record-breaking rushing day in the NFC Championship Game. When it was all said and done, he finished with 220 yards and four scores on 29 carries.
In the regular season, Garoppolo recorded 3,978 yards and 27 scores on 69 percent passing. Hypothetically speaking, if the Niners needed to him to have a big passing game, he possesses the skillset to do it.
Will the Niners need to air it out more in the Super Bowl against the Chiefs? Time will tell.
