NFL Coach On Jets’ Sam Darnold: ‘He Stinks, Bro’

The New York Jets have made it no secret that they are shopping Sam Darnold. Clearly they are looking to begin their rebuild, and the former USC standout has no place in a situation like that.

To date, three serious trade suitors have been mentioned for Darnold. That said – an actual deal has yet to materialize.

Why?

This week, an answer emerged.

According to NFL insider Matt Lombardo, Darnold isn’t held in particularly high esteem around the league.

“Asking around on Sam Darnold, and the sense I get from scouts, coaches, and executives is that the perception of him among fans and some in media is significantly higher than of those inside the league,” he wrote.

“He stinks, bro” one offensive coach summed up to Lombardo.

This seems to align with a separate report from ESPN NFL insider Dianna Russini, who suggested that even a franchise as hard-up for a quarterback as the Washington Football Team had little interest in Darnold’s services.

“I spoke to a source in Washington about the possibility of the WFT trading with the Jets for QB Sam Darnold,” she wrote.

“I was simply told, ‘Don’t waste your time.’”

Over the course of three seasons with the Jets, Darnold has recorded 45 touchdowns and 39 interceptions.

While some strongly believe New York would be wise to retain him, the overwhelming opinion across the NFL seems to be that he is a lost cause.
