A teen girl who sucker-punched an opponent during a girls’ basketball game recently is now facing the consequences of that decision.

The incident in question occurred part of the way through a Garden Grove girls’ basketball game this past Sunday.

With the SoCal Blaze team up by double digits over Dream Academy, a player on the latter squad took a three and missed. She appeared to get bumped on the play. Seconds later, the same girl who took the shot violently swung at the other team’s 15-year-old guard.

Someone in the crowd seemed to have yelled, “You better hit her,” in the lead up.

On Wednesday, the aggressor in this situation began to face the ramifications of her actions.

According to TMZ, a spokesperson for the Garden Grove Police has indicated that officials are now officially investigating the incident. Moreover, the attacker has now “been banned from playing in future AVAC United games.”

As for the victim, her mother told the media that she “is suffering from the after-effects so much, she still has yet to return to school.”

Youth sports has become a breeding ground for this sort of violent crime, though recent notable cases have more so involved adults assaulting kids.

Sports is a great outlet for children, but things like this ruin it for everybody. Hopefully the officials investigating this matter will ensure that justice is served when it’s all said and done.
