Is Cam Newton Done With The Carolina Panthers?
Is Cam Newton done with the Carolina Panthers?
Newton, a former league MVP, has been out with a Lisfranc injury since Week 2 of this season.
There were some murmurs in recent weeks that he may be getting ready to make a comeback, but that talk was shut down on Friday.
According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, Newton went to go see a foot specialist this week after his recovery failed to progress the way all involved hoped it would.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport backed this up by saying that Newton’s injury was not recovering well and that “playing football is a long way off.”

#Panthers QB Cam Newton hasn’t played since mid-September & his sprained foot is not getting better. He hasn’t done more than rehab to the side. The visit to Dr. Anderson in Green Bay is to learn why his condition isn’t improving, source said. Playing football is a long way off.

In response to all the chatter, Panthers general manager Marty Hurney released a statement indicating that his star quarterback is gathering “more information” on his injury.

“I spent a long time speaking with Cam this week and he’s done everything he possibly can in his rehab process to get his foot to 100 percent,” Hurney said.
“Unfortunately, we haven’t reached that point. The next step is for him to go see Dr. Anderson and gather more information.”
In Newton’s absence backup quarterback Kyle Allen has stepped in and done an admirable job filling in.
Based on this latest news, it is becoming increasingly unlikely that Newton will be able to return to form with Carolina this season.
