New England Patriots Star Dies

A New England Patriots star died on Wednesday.

Former defensive end Larry Eisenhauer passed away at the age of 79 this week.

Eisenhauer was a member of the Patriots from 1961 to 1969. He was a sixth-round pick out of Boston College in the 1961 Draft.

Over the course of his career Eisenhauer became a four-time AFL All-Star and three-time AFL All-Pro. Eisenhauer was also a member of the 1960s Patriots All-Decade team.

“The New England Patriots are disheartened to learn of the passing of former Patriots defensive end Larry Eisenhauer,” the Patriots posted on Twitter this week.

When it was all said and done, Eisenhauer amassed 47.5 sacks over his nine-year stint. That mark still stands as the eighth most in Patriots franchise history.

“Not only was he one of the best defensive linemen in the AFL for nearly a decade, but we was also one of the most colorful personalities this franchise has ever known,” Robert Kraft said.

“I think everyone who ever played with him had a Larry Eisenhauer story and loved to retell them at alumni gatherings.”

The Patriots will likely do some sort of formal tribute for Eisenhauer at some point in the next few weeks.
