Tyler Herro has been the name most frequently mentioned in recent days as one that could be sent to the Portland Trail Blazers in return for Damian Lillard.
Lillard, one of the best players in the league, requested a trade from the Blazers recently. He specifically cited the Heat as his preferred destination.
Aside from Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, both of whom are off the table in any potential deal, Herro is arguably the guy with the most name recognition and theoretical upside.
So how does Herro feel about his name floating around?

“Tyler Herro believes he’s going to get traded,” NBA insider Skolnick reported this week.
“That’s what he’s been telling people, he’s expecting to be traded… everything seems to be leaning towards the [Brooklyn] Nets more as a legitimate possibility right now.”
Why the Nets and not the Blazers? Well, therein lies the problem. Portland doesn’t want Herro. ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski said as much this week.
“Portland doesn’t have interest in bringing in Tyler Herro. [Trail Blazers are] already built around young guards… Their focus is elsewhere on getting maximum value for [Damian Lillard].”

Which makes sense. Does a team with Scoot Henderson, Shaedon Sharpe and Anfernee Simons on the roster really need Herro’s unique brand of mostly volume scoring? Probably not.
All of which is to say, although Herro may be ready to get dealt, someone actually has to want him first. And currently no one does.
It’s far likelier at the moment that the Blazers send Lillard away in a three-team trade with the Boston Celtics than one with Miami centered around Herro.

One way another, the next few weeks promise to be interesting.
Where will Lillard and Herro ultimately end up playing come the beginning of the 2023-24 NBA season? Time will tell.
