Stephen Curry's Curious Reaction To Warriors Trading For Jimmy Butler
The Golden State Warriors acquired Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat. The significant trade package included Andrew Wiggins, Lindy Waters III, Dennis Schroder, and a protected first-round pick.
Butler, a six-time All-Star forward, joins forces with Stephen Curry to strengthen the Warriors’ championship aspirations. The veteran forward waived his 2025-26 player option and agreed to a two-year contract extension.
Stephen Curry expressed his thoughts after the Warriors’ 131-128 defeat to the Utah Jazz. He had something of a curious reaction, speaking of Butler like someone he was excited to play with, but who also came with a lot of baggage.
“He went to two finals. He’s a winner,” Curry said.
“I understand there was a lot of drama down there. Who really knows what the story is? We expect to have a motivated, committed Jimmy who is ready to impact our team for the better.”
Curry didn’t stop there.
“You gotta work out the kinks of what it looks like. I’m excited to get to work and feed off the energy of someone new, somebody that’s had experience at the highest levels, and has a lot to prove. We’re going to try and help each other do it,” Curry continued.
“I texted him at halftime. Just excited to get things going, start a conversation, and hit the ground running. I don’t know when I’ll see him in person… It was a very pleasant message.”
Overall, though — Curry seems excited.
“He’s obviously a competitor at the highest level,” Curry added.
“Me and him could work off each other. I’m excited to see what it looks like. I’ve been watching a lot of Miami film to understand some of the sets that we might run for him. We’ll see if we can transition it into our playbook.
“We want to give him free rein to give us some insight into what he’s comfortable with and make adjustments. But we all gotta be ourselves too.”
The trade announcement came during this matchup, adding a notable dimension to the team’s competitive outlook.
The Warriors front office, led by Mike Dunleavy Jr., executed this move to pair another All-Star talent with their franchise cornerstone Curry. This trade represents a major shift in the Warriors’ roster construction and competitive strategy.
