Stephen Curry, Draymond Green Excited To Play Without Klay Thompson

Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are going to be returning to a very different Golden State Warriors team next season.

Gone is Klay Thompson, a key piece of the puzzle that helped elevate Golden State to dynasty status over the past decade and change.

While publicly Curry and Green have said all the right things regarding Thompson’s messy departure to the Dallas Mavericks, privately it appears they aren’t too torn up about it.

“Both stars say they are excited about the moves Golden State has made so far this summer, sources said… Sources added Curry and Green are exhibiting trust that what has happened this offseason can help the team — as long as the team remains competitive,” Kendra Andrews of ESPN reported.

That said, Andrews also made it a point to note that neither Curry nor Green have final say over any decisions involving the team. That way, the blood stays off their hands.

“Sources told ESPN that neither Curry nor Green want to be ‘final decision-makers’ in regard to roster moves or transactions. But they do want to be consulted. ‘Steph has said, ‘Look, I do not want to be making those decisions. It puts me in a different spot than all of my teammates. I do not want that,’ a source told ESPN.”

That checks out. And it also explains why Thompson cut all ties with Curry on social media, and why Green has been so vocal about being happy that Thompson is a new situation.

Clearly Curry and Green felt like Thompson was holding them back last year. Will they be proven right? Time will tell.
