Real Reason ESPN Decided To Fire NBA Writer Zach Lowe
ESPN sent shockwaves through the sports world early Thursday morning when it was announced that the Worldwide Leader in Sports had fired Zach Lowe.
Lowe, a respected writer within the hoops community, was viewed by many diehard fans as the best basketball analyst on ESPN’s roster.
So why did he ultimately get fired?
The real reason for ESPN’s decision was revealed later in the day on Thursday.
According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Times, Lowe was too expensive for the Worldwide Leader in Sports to retain.
“Lowe’s salary, which was in excess of seven figures annually, was the biggest factor in ESPN’s decision, according to sources briefed on the terms of his contract. He is expected to be the final layoff of this round,” Marchand wrote.\

“Lowe had been with ESPN for 12 years, first starting at the longform site, Grantland. Besides writing and appearing on TV, he also hosted the ‘Lowe Post’ podcast series.
“ESPN’s NBA coverage is in a state of transition with the surprise retirement of insider Adrian Wojnarowski and with the network still figuring out if it will add to its lead broadcast team of Mike Breen and Doris Burke.”
This all comes on the heels of the real reason for Wojnarowski’s departure coming out, too.
For better or worse, ESPN’s NBA coverage will look very different when the new season tips off.
