Pelicans Trading Lonzo Ball To Knicks?

Are the Pelicans trading Lonzo Ball to the Knicks?

It would certainly make sense for all teams involved.

New York entered this season with more forwards on their roster than they knew what to do with.

It was apparent to everyone except apparently the Knicks that this was not a good way to construct the roster, but James Dolan and Co. like to learn things the hard way.

Surely enough, the Knicks are 7-21 through 28 games and are facing yet another embarrassing season.

New Orleans, meanwhile, came into the year with a lot of hype. Behind Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball many thought they would be able to make some real noise at the bottom of the Western Conference playoff race.

Those hopes never quite turned into reality, though.

Williamson was forced to have surgery after a strong preseason campaign and has yet to play a regular season game.

Ingram is putting up the best numbers of his career, but it is not translating into wins.

An the Pelicans currently find themselves at 6-22 through 28 games.

One of the big problems New Orleans has is Ball’s production. Many thought getting away from Los Angeles would rejuvenate him in the way it has Ingram – but that has not been the case.

Ball is averaging 10.1 points on 37 percent hooting and 5.5 assists per game. Recently, the Pelicans opted to relegate him to the bench.

A deal between New York and New Orleans centering around Ball could be smart for all involved.

The Knicks presently don’t have any strong guards on their roster. Kevin Knox clearly is not a player they can build around going forward.

As noted by USA Today, the Knicks could package him and a draft pick and swap them to New Orleans for Ball.

“As for Knox, he would help free up the backcourt and provide another wing option for a side that has played JJ Redick at the small forward at times this season,” the article pointed out.

“It’d come at a low cost with the first round pick attached as well.”

Will this deal ultimately come to fruition? It remains to be seen. But clearly both organizations are not trending in the right direction right now.

A move like this could help all involved.
