Warriors Make Final Decision On D’Angelo Russell Trade
The Warriors made a final decision on a D’Angelo Russell trade, it appears.
The trade deadline just days away.
One of the hottest names being discussed for a potential swap is Russell.
The reason why is clear.
When Golden State first acquired him, he seemed like the sort of piece that would get moved when Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson got healthy.
Russell is averaging 23.8 points and 6.3 assists per outing this season. He is clearly very talented – he just isn’t the right fit alongside Curry and Thompson.
Unfortunately, Golden State has not yet gotten an offer that the organization deems fair value.
Recently, The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor noted that the Minnesota Timberwolves tried to do a three-team deal in order to get the assets necessary for a Russell deal.
Sadly, the Warriors had no interest in what Minnesota put on the table.
“The Wolves are in hot pursuit of Russell and are searching for assets to put together an offer that is acceptable to the Warriors,” The Ringer reported.
“Recently, a three-way deal was discussed that would have sent Robert Covington to Houston, Clint Capela to Atlanta, and Brooklyn’s 2020 first-round pick from Atlanta to Minnesota, according to multiple league sources.
“But Golden State declined Minnesota’s offer—which included the Brooklyn first and its own first-round pick in 2020—and the three-way talks were put on pause.”
The Timberwolves obviously badly want to pair Karl-Anthony Towns and Russell, but it is unclear if they will have the means to do so.
Will a deal ultimately get done? We’ll find out once and for all come this weekend.
