Are the Warriors and 76ers working on a Ben Simmons trade?

Philadelphia is currently 25-14 through 39 games. That places them at No. 5 in the Eastern Conference behind the Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors.

Given the amount of talent on the roster, most had the Sixers penciled in for a return trip to the conference finals this year. To say they are currently underachieving would be an understatement.

With the NBA trade deadline a little less than one month away, ESPN analyst Jalen Rose has suggested a move that might shake things up quite a bit.

According to Rose, Philly should move Simmons to Golden State in return for D’Angelo Russell.

“It makes a lot of sense,” Rose said.

“I love Ben Simmons. I love Joel Embiid. But I don’t think they can maximize their potential together.”

In Rose’s opinion, the 76ers must choose one star to build around. And in his estimation, that star has to be their big man.

“They’re both so very talented, that you have to build a team around Joel Embiid,” he said.

When the Warriors acquired Russell following Durant’s departure, it was widely assumed that they did so just to eventually use him as trade bait.

When Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson eventually return, they will not have much use for Russell on the roster.

Will a Russell-for-Simmons swap really occur? It seems unlikely, but crazier things have happened in the NBA.
