New Frontrunner Emerges For Kyle Kuzma Trade With Wizards

Kyle Kuzma signed a four-year, $102 million contract with the Washington Wizards this past summer.

With Bradley Beal leaving, Washington hoped that Kuzma and the newly-acquired Jordan Poole could serve as fun foundational pieces as the team embarked on a massive rebuild.

Unfortunately, the Wizards haven’t been very fun this year. Not only is the team losing games – but they are doing so in the least entertaining way possible.

As a result, Kuzma figures to be on the move. Over the past few weeks, he has consistently been linked to four teams in regards to a possible trade.

That being said, one clear frontrunner for Kuzma’s services has emerged.

This week, Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype spoke with Sacramento Kings insider James Ham about the likelihood of Kuzma linking up with De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis.

“Kuzma is a player that other teams around the league are certainly monitoring,” Scotto said.

“Given where Washington is in rebuilding, there are teams out there that certainly think that they would move him. Regarding Sacramento and Kuzma, do you see anything there potentially if Sacramento can’t get [Pascal] Siakam?”

Ham acknowledged that this was a real possibility.

“Yeah I do, to be honest with you,” he said.

“Monte McNair basically had a trade worked out with Buddy Hield to the Lakers for Kyle Kuzma and Montrezl Harrell a couple of years ago and it fell through. The Lakers at the last second took the Russell Westbrook deal instead.

“Then again this summer, the Kings were very interested in Kuzma again. They had negotiations with Harrison Barnes and his group about a potential fit about bringing Harrison back. But then the Kings got to a certain point with negotiations and then went radio silent for like 10 days while they went out and made sure that they were making the right move for themselves.”

Ham didn’t stop there, though.

“The one thing that I would say about Kuzma and why if I’m the Kings, I’m still in is because he signed the same deal that Buddy Hield and Harrison Barnes signed in Sacramento a few years ago when Ken Catanella was running the money for Vlade Divac, and it’s a declining scale contract,” Ham continued.

“To me, that’s perfect for the Kings because a couple of years from now, Keegan Murray is going to need to get paid. De’Aaron Fox’s salary will go up, Domantas Sabonis’ salary will go up, and you’ve got Malik Monk that needs to get paid this summer.”

It will be interesting to see if the Kings ultimately pull the trigger on a move for Kuzma.

Clearly he would be a solid fit, but is he a game-changer for the team? That is the $100 million question.

Will Kuzma ultimately find himself in Sacramento by the time the NBA Trade Deadline comes and goes? Time will tell.
