Lakers, Timberwolves Working On Kyle Kuzma Trade

The Lakers and Timberwolves are working on a Kyle Kuzma trade, it would appear.

With the NBA Trade Deadline two days away, moves are being made.

According to Chris Crouse, the “Timberwolves have interest in Lakeshow forward Kyle Kuzma.”

It is no secret that Los Angeles is one of several teams interested in acquiring forward Robert Covington.

Covington’s defensive prowess and general skill set would work well on a championship contender.

The presumed cost of getting him to the Lakers would be Kuzma, DeMarcus Cousins and Quinn Cook, but it is unclear whether either party is prepared to make that happen.

Currently in the third year of a rookie deal that pays him nearly $2 million, Kuzma would be the central piece in any big trade the Lakers make.

Next season Kuzma is owed $3.6 million.

According to The Athletic NBA insider Shams Charania, LA is approaching the trade deadline with caution.

Although Rob Pelinka feels a deal needs to be made to upgrade the roster, he wants to be on the margins. Not disrupting team chemistry is paramount.

The Sacramento Kings have also expressed interest in trading for Kuzma, but thus far no deal has been reached. The Lakers are said to want Bogdan Bogdanovic in any potential deal, while Sacramento is only willing to part with Nemanja Bjelica.

This season Kuzma is averaging 13 points per outing on 43 percent shooting.

The NBA trade deadline is set for Thursday, February 6. If a deal for Kuzma is going to get done, it will get done by that point.
