The Los Angeles Lakers’ disastrous 2021-22 NBA season has had massive ramifications.
Amid organizational infighting and finger-pointing, a path for LeBron James’ exit has already been drawn.
But James may not be the only domino to drop.
Anthony Davis’ status in LA is also very much up in the air. And if he does end up getting dealt, the Chicago Bulls have emerged as a legitimate option.
During a recent conversation with Ryan Stone of Heavy, an NBA executive suggested that a Bulls-Davis partnership may be in the cards.
“Chicago is the one place I can see AD saying, ‘OK, if you are going to trade me, send me home.’ He has always wanted to play for the Bulls,” he said. “That is not a big secret. He wants to do something for his city. If you are Chicago, I do not see how you don’t make an offer, at least feel it out.”
That said – the asking price would be steep.
“But you would have to send DeMar DeRozan back,” he continued.
“Plus I’d say either Pat Williams or Coby White. and if it is White, then a draft pick, too. I think that is something that would at least have a chance because the Lakers can say, ‘Well he wanted to go home,’ then let his injuries be Chicago’s problem. I like DeRozan and LeBron together, you get Coby White and you flip the pick for a vet? It is not a bad deal for the Lakers, either.”
This isn’t the first time chatter like this has emerged. Just a few weeks ago, the prospect of Davis heading to Chicago was broached. Nothing materialized before the NBA Trade Deadline, obviously, but that doesn’t mean it cannot happen in the future.

How the Lakers come out of the All-Star break will be telling. If the team can put its prior woes behind them and move forward, maybe this thing can still be fixed.
If LA ends up beginning the second half of the season the way they played the first – expect the Davis-to-Chicago rumors to only intensify from here.
