Kyle Kuzma re-signed with the Washington Wizards last summer on a deal that will pay him roughly $100 million over four years.
The idea was that he and Jordan Poole would be a pair of exciting young guns that could keep the Wizards relevant as they embarked on a post-Bradley Beal rebuild.
Unfortunately, it simply hasn’t worked out.
Not only is Washington terrible, as made clear by their 9-39 record, but they also aren’t particularly fun to watch.
As a result, Kuzma has become one of the most sought-after players around ahead of the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline. In recent days he has been linked to three possible teams as far as trades go.
That being said, one squad seems to be mentioned in relation to him a bit more than others: the Dallas Mavericks.
This week, Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports confirmed that there was serious interest there. That being said, one roadblock may prevent a Kuzma to Dallas trade from going down.
“The Mavericks appear to be pursuing a much wider range of players than the [Sacramento] Kings. Sacramento and Dallas both registered interest in [Pascal] Siakam and [Jerami] Grant,” Fischer wrote.
“But aside from the Kuzma connection — the Kings have pursued Kuzma dating back to his Lakers days — Sacramento isn’t currently known to be pursuing other roster upgrades that would require parting with Harrison Barnes, sources said, and he could very well stick in Sacramento beyond the deadline.”
Essentially, while the Mavs are real contenders for Kuzma’s services, their openness to go with alternative options could put Sacramento in the driver’s seat to steal him away.
In recent days, Dallas has been linked to a massive 4-team trade with the Golden State Warriors as well.

One way or another, clearly something is on the verge of going down.
Which team will come away with Kuzma ahead of the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline? Time will tell.
