Zion Williamson Explains Why He Finally Stopped Eating So Much

Zion Williamson has been one of the league’s most disappointing players since being drafted by the New Orleans Pelicans.

Armed with the ability to be a true gamechanger, the sort of talent who alters championship landscapes, Williamson has allowed himself to get injured on a seemingly annual basis.

The worst part of the injuries is that, in some ways, they felt self-inflicted. Williamson’s weight has been an issue since he arrived in the league and, in most people’s estimations, played a role in his woes.

As recently as December fans couldn’t believe how out of shape he was.

Everything seemed to change following a Dec. 7 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers where they fell by 44 points.

Since then, Williamson has gotten into better shape and has seemingly turned things around.

Over the course of his last 18 outings Williamson is averaging 23.7 points per game on 56 percent shooting from the field. He is also chipping in 4.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game.

The Pelicans, meanwhile, are 36-25 and sit sixth in the West.

So what has changed for Williamson? Why did he put down the fork and knife and get his act together?

“People don’t understand how much I really love this s—,” Williamson told William Guillory of The Athletic.

“I pour everything into doing my best for the team and for the people who support me in New Orleans. I get it. You can only go off the information that’s in front of you. But that’s the great thing about the opportunity we have the rest of the way. We get to write our own story.”

This is a big year for the Pelicans. If they can make a deep playoff run, Williamson will join the upper echelons of the NBA’s superstars.

If not – his time in New Orleans could soon come to an unceremonious end.
