Stephen Curry’s ‘Weird’ Reaction To Klay Thompson Joining Mavericks

Stephen Curry’s ‘Weird’ Reaction To Klay Thompson Joining Mavericks

The Golden State Warriors and Klay Thompson decided to go their separate ways this summer.

Thompson made it clear that he wanted to remain with the team that he won four championships with, but the front office ultimately determined that his asking price couldn’t be met.

The partnership between these two times ultimately came to an end when the Warriors agreed to send Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks in a sign-and-trade deal.

This week, Thompson’s longtime teammate Stephen Curry offered his brutally honest thoughts on what occurred this summer.

“It’s still weird, man,” Curry told Marc J. Spears.

“I really haven’t figured out the emotions yet just because it’s one of those pieces that really won’t sink in until you get into October and you go to the locker room and you’re in your familiar sights and sounds of the Chase Center.

“All things have to come to an end at some point. I wish it would’ve turned out differently. I wish we could have rode into the sunset, all three of us [Curry, (Draymond) Green and Thompson] as Warriors for our whole career.”

Still, Curry seems to understand why Thompson had to go elsewhere.

“[Thompson] made a decision that he felt was best for himself,” Curry added.

“What we were able to do for how long we were able to do it and together, it’s special and it speaks to how hard it is to do that. So, I’m going to choose to celebrate all the things we accomplished and all the experiences we had instead of feeling any type of resentment or getting pissed off about it. It’s still weird though.”

In the same interview, Curry also revealed that there is only one feasible scenario where he could ever see himself leaving the Warriors.

Thompson and the Golden State had a great run together. But it is over now.

The next chapter of Thompson’s story, the one where he tries to lead the Mavericks past the Warriors in the West, will ultimately define how a lot of people view his career.
