New Team Emerges With Interest In D’Angelo Russell Amid Lakers Rumors

A new team has emerged with interest in D’Angelo Russell this week amid nonstop trade rumors surrounding him and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Over the past few weeks five squads have been mentioned as possible suitors for Russell’s services. That being said, most seemed to view him as potential trade capital down the road rather than a piece they actually wanted to build around.

Recently, Russell has experienced a legitimate surge in the quality of his play. In his last 16 games Russell has put up 22.2 points on 46.3 percent shooting from the field and 44.9 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

He is also dishing out 6.4 assists per game.

This week, the Toronto Raptors emerged as a possible suitor for Russell if the right deal came along.

“Russell’s name has been mentioned in trade talks with the Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks in recent weeks, sources told ESPN, while the point guard managed to play some of the best basketball of his career,” the report noted.

While Russell had been linked to the Nets and Hawks previously, Toronto’s inclusion on the list is new.

If Russell was sent back to Brooklyn, it would be in a package for Dorian Finney-Smith and Royce O’Neale – both of whom the Lakers have interest in.

Should Atlanta be the spot where Russell is dispatched, it would obviously be for Dejounte Murray.

The terms of the potential Toronto deal are less clear, though.

It is something of a known fact that L.A. is currently scrambling to shore up one particular area of weakness, but how the Raptors fit into that isn’t known at this time.

One way or another, though – clearly the Lakers want to make a move ahead of the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline.

And if a move is in fact made, Russell will be included.

Will Russell still be a member of the Lakers when the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline comes and goes this week? Time will tell.
