JJ Redick Reveals Lakers Player He Is Most Excited To Coach
The Los Angeles Lakers announced this week that J.J. Redick would become the team’s next head coach.
Because Redick has never coached at any real level, news of L.A.’s hire was met with mixed reactions.
The fact that he almost immediately faced very serious allegations from a former Duke student and Kobe Bryant’s hatred of him also didn’t endear Redick to his doubters.
That said – all parties involved are still moving forward. Redick, for better or worse, will be the Lakers’ next head coach.
This week Redick did an interview where he described which Lakers player he was most excited to coach. One would think that on a squad with LeBron James and Anthony Davis on it, one of those two guys would be the star Redick would be most enthused about working with.
Not so.
Who is the player Redick appears most excited to coach? Austin Reaves.

“Oh, he’s excellent, And I cannot wait to coach Austin,” Redick said.
“And one of the reasons I cannot wait to coach Austin is because of his competitive spirit. He has a real mental toughness and competitive approach every single night.”
Reaves, for what it’s worth, is also very hyped about working with Redick.
“I’ve gotten to know J.J. a little bit, going on his podcast during the middle of the year,” Reaves said.

“He’s a basketball genius, I think as everybody knows. I think he’s going to make a good coach, and I can’t wait to get to work with him. He actually texted me yesterday, I wanted to get on a call. I can’t wait to put our brains together and go have a good year.”
What sort of magic will Reaves and Redick be able to cook up together going forward? An answer one way or another is coming next season.
