Colin Cowherd Has Harsh Words For Luka Doncic, Mavericks
Colin Cowherd had some harsh words for Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks on Monday. He is still not viewing them as a credible threat to beat the Los Angeles Clippers.
Less than 24 hours after Doncic became the talk of the NBA world with his memorable game-winner, Cowherd argued that the hype was somewhat unwarranted.
In the Fox Sports radio host’s estimation, Doncic’s buzzer-beater on Sunday amounted to a lucky shot going in. If it hadn’t, Cowherd maintains, then this would a series where the Clippers are up 3-1 instead of tied at 2-2.
“Let’s explain the whole series. Luka hit a 30-footer at the buzzer. If he doesn’t, it’s 3-1 Clippers.” @ColinCowherd reacts to Mavericks evening the series at 2: pic.twitter.com/K5p1DkWGFy

“Let’s explain the whole series,” Cowherd argued on his show.
“Luka hit a 30-footer at the buzzer. If he doesn’t, it’s 3-1 Clippers.”
While Cowherd is obviously right in that this easily could’ve been a 3-1 series instead of a 2-2 series, he seems to be ignoring that the same case could be made in the other direction as well.
If Kristaps Porzingis hadn’t gotten ejected for seemingly no reason in Game 1, this series could be 3-1 in Dallas’ favor. If Doncic hadn’t gotten hurt in Game 3, it would be the Clippers who are down 1-3 in the series.
That is the way the NBA works. You are generally one bad break or one good break away from wherever you end up.

Colin Cowherd Thinks Paul George Will Bounce Back
One of Cowherd’s more interesting points on Monday was that he firmly believes Paul George will break out of his current slump.
“Paul George is really playing poorly,” he admitted. “[But] Paul George will be fine. Paul George, here’s my promise, he’ll play really well one of the next two games. He’ll look like an All-Star.”
George entered Game 4 shooting 29 percent from the field and 23 percent from three. Unfortunately, he didn’t quite break out of his slump on Sunday.
Through four quarters of regulation and one overtime period he finished with nine points on 3-of-14 shooting. Of those nine points, all but two came in the first quarter.
After the game, George admitted he was off.
“I’ve just got to stay with it,” he acknowledged after Sunday’s loss.
“It’s a marathon, man, I’ve got to stay with it. I thought early on I got a rhythm and then towards the third quarter there was a stretch where I just got out of rhythm and I was trying to find it. It was tough, it’s just tough for me right now.
“It’s hard to say because I’m getting the looks, the shots. The floor is open, the defenders aren’t great, but I’m just having a hard time finding the ball through right now.”
Despite his struggles, George’s teammates and coaches still have full faith in him.
“His time is coming,” Kawhi Leonard observed on Sunday.
“He had some easy looks tonight. Everybody did, but it’s not his fault. We were up big in the second quarter and I think everybody has a part in winning the basketball game.”
Head coach Doc Rivers agreed with that assessment.
“We clearly got to get him more shots,” he said on Monday.
“And that’s on us, on all of us. [He got] great looks and I just want him to get more of those and take more of those.
“He needs to shoot 20-plus times, he needs to get the ball up in the air. And he will. I feel very confident about PG because I always have.”
In order for the Clippers to truly be as dominant as Cowherd seems to think they are, George will need to deliver.
Cowherd predicts that will ultimately end up happening at some point in the next couple of games. Is he right? Time will tell.
