Chris Paul Admits Annoyance With Warriors

Chris Paul joined the Golden State Warriors in 2023. The 12-time All-Star played alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, but the combination of those three players didn’t end up amounting to much of anything.

Paul primarily came off the bench for the first time in his career. He averaged 9.2 points and 6.8 assists per game. In the process, the Warriors missed the playoffs that season.

This week, Paul spoke about his time in The Bay.

Understandably, he has some lingering frustration.

“I love nothing more than the opportunity to play and contribute and hoop. My family is everything. My wife is here, my kids are back in L.A., and that’s where they will be during the season. And I love basketball so much that I could be close to home, but if I’m not playing, I’m not happy,” he said this week.

It doesn’t take much to read between the lines there. Paul played just 26 minutes per game during his time with the Warriors.

That said, while Paul wasn’t happy with his time in Golden State, he seems to be enjoying his stint with the San Antonio Spurs — despite the weird clause they put in his contract.

“There’s no player in the league that everybody talks about [more] after the game,” said Paul on Wembanyama.

“Me and Harrison [Barnes] were on our flight talking about how cool it’s going to be at this point in our careers to get a chance to appreciate him day in and out.”

Everyone is excited to see what sort of influence Paul will ultimately have on Wembanyama’s development. Obviously the Spurs’ 12-12 mark in 2024 isn’t great, but it also puts them only two games behind of the 5th place Warriors.

If the Spurs make a run, they could easily end up in the playoffs.

It will be interesting to see if Paul has one more New Orleans Pelicans-like run left in him where he can help Wembanyama and the Spurs make it to the postseason.
