Lakers’ Latest Anthony Davis Injury Update Ahead Of Game 6
The Los Angeles Lakers saw Anthony Davis leave their Game 5 showdown against the Golden State Warriors early on Wednesday night.
Following an accidental elbow from Kevon Looney in the fourth quarter, Davis was ushered over to the sidelines.
After being checked on the Lakers’ bench by athletic trainer Jon Ishop, he had to be wheelchaired to the back for further examination. It got so bad at one point that even the Warriors’ medical staff offered to assist.
“There are members of the Warriors medical staff standing by outside the Lakers locker room, presumably to evaluate Anthony Davis,” Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported.
Understandably, given how serious the injury initially looked and the league’s concussion protocol mandates, Davis’ Game 6 status appeared to be very much in doubt.
On Thursday, clarity on his situation seemed to emerge.
First and foremost, the Lakers’ star big man was able to walk out of the arena on Wednesday night with no assistance.

Chris Haynes of TNT followed up with a report suggesting that Davis avoided a concussion.

“[Davis] was stumbling a little bit, you could tell his equilibrium was off,” Haynes said.
“Then about five minutes later, they brought a wheelchair into the room, and from there, he was escorted to the room over all the way across the hall to the locker room.
“Sources have informed me that the early diagnosis is that Anthony Davis has avoided a concussion. He’s doing much better now. That is good news right now.”
That said, according to ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst, Davis is scheduled to participate in more concussion testing on Thursday.

Because it appears that Davis avoided serious injury, some couldn’t help but feel like he overdramatized what happened.

Big picture, this has been a wild series so far.
Between the Lakers looking dominant after the first four games, the chaos in Game 5, the random side plots like Austin Reaves’ girlfriend going viral and that Warriors cheerleader whose provocative photos caused a stir, and now this Davis situation, it has been one thing after another.

But the fact remains – Game 6 is a must-win outing for L.A.
The Lakers cannot afford to let this series go to a Game 7 after being up 3-1. Will Davis return on Friday night to help lead his team into the Western Conference Finals? Time will tell.
