Vanessa Bryant Sues For Wrongful Death Over Kobe’s Passing
Vanessa Bryant is filing a wrongful death lawsuit over Kobe’s passing, it would appear.
According to TMZ, Vanessa is suing Island Express for the January 26 helicopter crash that killed Kobe, their 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others.
Among the things alleged in the lawsuit are that the weather should have prevented the pilot from taking off and that basic rules were not followed in the lead-up to the crash.
TMZ noted that “the fog was extremely low and the pilot was in blinding conditions” before the accident ultimately occurred.
The lawsuit also notes that the pilot was flying 180 miles per hour in the heavy fog in a steep decline – a recipe for disaster given the conditions.
Moreover, the suit also claims that the pilot did not adequately examine the weather conditions prior to takeoff and then did not abort the trip as he should of when he saw how bad the cloudiness was.
Beyond that, the pilot is also accused of failing to keep control of the aircraft and not avoiding “natural obstacles” in the flight path.
The lawsuit also notes that the pilot, Ara Zobayan, was disciplined five years ago for flying in reduced visibility.
Vanessa is said to be seeking punitive damages from the lawsuit, although a total dollar amount has not yet been announced.

News of the lawsuit comes on the heels of a special memorial being held in Los Angeles for Kobe and Gianna. The date was picked because Gianna wore No. 2 when she played basketball and Bryant wore No. 24.
