Tyran Stokes is the new face of the 2027 NBA Draft. The Kansas commit and rising senior wing has established himself as the No. 1 pick favorite in early mock drafts, and the buzz around him is only getting louder as high school basketball ramps up this fall.
ESPN’s debut 2027 mock has Stokes at the top. Sports Illustrated’s early big board has him at the top. Every scouting service that has looked at his tape and his workouts has come to the same conclusion. He is the best player in his class.
The comparisons are already being thrown around. Stokes is 6-foot-7 with a wingspan that plays even bigger. He handles the ball like a guard, defends multiple positions, and has a scoring package that includes shooting from range, driving through contact, and finishing above the rim. He was named the top overall recruit in his class by every major service.
The Kansas commitment matters. Bill Self has coached a lot of NBA talent over the years, and he has a track record of putting elite freshmen in position to succeed on both ends of the floor. Stokes going to Lawrence is not a slam dunk that he stays a full season, but it is a great development environment for his one-and-done year.
The 2027 class is being described by scouts as an interesting one because it lacks a marquee talent above the rest of the pack. That is where Stokes has a chance to separate. For NBA teams looking at 2027, this is a class where scouting reports are going to matter a lot. The 2026 draft had clear top-three prospects. The 2027 draft is going to require more work to sort out. That is good for teams with good scouting departments and bad for teams that lean on consensus rankings.
