Cameron Boozer Is the Safest Bet in the 2026 NBA Draft: Here’s Why
Cameron Boozer is not the flashiest name in the 2026 NBA Draft class. He might just be the safest one.
Scouts and evaluators have been increasingly pointing to Boozer as the most foolproof prospect in a stacked class that includes AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson. All three project as top-three picks. But Boozer is the guy nobody has a real bust case for.
The scouting reports use words like “lightspeed processor” and “incredible reactive passer.” Those are not empty compliments. Boozer sees the floor at a level that translates immediately at every level. He does not need to develop a skill to become useful. He is already useful. The question is only how high his ceiling goes.
Boozer’s basketball IQ is his real edge. He makes the right read almost every time. He plays within team concepts. He does not force. In a draft where a lot of the top prospects are still figuring out how to blend athletic talent with high-level decision making, Boozer is already there. That is why NBA teams love him.
The comp game is always dangerous, but Boozer draws real comparisons to guys who had long careers as high-level starters. He is not Anthony Davis. He is not Chet Holmgren. He is his own thing. Think of a big forward who can score inside, hit an open jumper, defend multiple positions, and quarterback an offense from the elbow. That kind of player never comes off an NBA roster.
AJ Dybantsa is the higher-ceiling name in the class. Dybantsa has NBA athletic tools that project as an eventual All-Star if the shot develops. That is a real bet. But Dybantsa’s floor is lower than Boozer’s, and lottery teams are increasingly risk-averse.
Darryn Peterson has already been drafted (No. 2 overall to the Jazz) after reclassifying, so he is off the 2026 board.
The frame comparison to Cooper Flagg keeps coming up. Flagg was a 2025 No. 1 pick who won Rookie of the Year. Boozer is being compared as a similar tier of prospect. Not quite Wembanyama level. Not quite guaranteed to be a franchise-changer. But a can’t-miss starter and a probable All-Star at some point in his career.
Where he ends up will be decided by the lottery, and that is months away. The projected pool of top-three teams next spring is deep. Whoever picks Boozer gets the guy scouts will point to five years from now as the smartest decision of the draft. He is not the highlight reel. He is the win.
The 2026 class has more high-end talent than any draft in recent memory. Boozer is the one who is going to look like the safest pick when the dust settles. Bet on the processor.
