LeBron James Wants 1 Specific Coach To Replace Darvin Ham

The Los Angeles Lakers are set to part ways with head coach Darvin Ham this week.

According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, the move is coming shortly.

“The latest I’ve heard is the plan is still to move on from Darvin Ham at some point, likely by the end of the week, potentially as early as tomorrow, then the head coaching search will start,” Buha said on a recent podcast appearance.

“I’ve already started to hear some names from different people.”

While different candidates have been floated as Ham’s potential replacement, Lakers star LeBron James wants one in particular: Los Angeles Clippers head coach Ty Lue.

“There are a lot of factors there, Ty is under contract (for 2024-25) but if the Clippers decide they need some changes, he could be one of the changes,” a league executive told Heavy Sports.

“LeBron can be a free agent. If Ty is out there, it is pretty clear that’s who LeBron wants.”

James will enter free agency this summer and has a ton of leverage to wield. Will he ultimately use it to pressure Lakers ownership to steal Lue away from the Clippers? Time will tell.
