Klay Thompson Gets Brutally Honest About Playing For Mavericks
Klay Thompson’s switch from the Golden State Warriors to the Dallas Mavericks this summer was one of the biggest NBA headlines of the offseason.
Many thought he might end up in L.A. with the Los Angeles Lakers, but instead Thompson opted to link up with the Mavs.
The real reason why emerged last month.
This past week Thompson spoke to the media at the ‘Dirk Nowitzki Foundation Tennis Classic’ event. In the process, he opened up about what he is feeling ahead of next season.
“I’m excited; it’s a whole new chapter of my career that has the potential to be really special,” Thompson said.

“The team was so close last year—three wins away from a championship—so I know we have the ingredients for success. We just have to stay together and build week by week. I know we can do something special, and that’s why I’m here early, just to get a feel for the city and the lay of the land. And I’m having fun while doing it.”
“It’s been really cool. Just going around town, meeting random people, and hearing how excited they are for the upcoming season and how grateful they are that I’m here—it motivates me. Seeing how excited everyone is for Mavs basketball pushes me even harder when I get into the gym.”
What sort of campaign will Thompson ultimately have with the Mavs in 2024? Time will tell.
