Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was an instrumental part of the Los Angeles Lakers’ run to a championship in 2020.
This past offseason, LA unloaded him in the trade that allowed them to acquire Russell Westbrook from the Washington Wizards.
Thus far, the Wizards are 11-5 on the year – good for second place in the Eastern conference.
The Lakers? 8-9 – good for ninth place in the Western Conference.
During a session with the media this past week, Caldwell-Pope was faced with an interesting question: “You’re having a great season while the team that traded you has been a failure. Any satisfaction from that?”
Caldwell-Pope couldn’t help but laugh.
Reporter: “You’re having a great season while the team that traded you (Lakers) has been a failure. Any satisfaction from that?”
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope: “I’m happy where I’m at. I wasn’t too upset about the trade. It was no biggie for me.” 🤣

“I’m happy where I’m at,” he replied. “I wasn’t really too upset about what happened with the trade.
“Brad is a great friend. We always talked about playing with each other. So it was no biggie for me already coming off a championship. It was time to move on.”
It’s hard to fault Caldwell-Pope for being giddy. His old squad is in tatters, recording more fights with fans this season (not one, not two, but three) than actually impressive victories. His new team, meanwhile, is one of the NBA’s best stories so far this season.

Clearly, Caldwell-Pope is feeling himself right now. And he is not alone. Kyle Kuzma expressed similar sentiments regarding the Lakers’ struggles. As did Montrezl Harrell.
Nobody is too sad to see LA losing.
Obviously the season is still young and anything can change. At the moment, though – the Lakers are an absolute laughing stock.
