JJ Redick was a member of the Philadelphia 76ers between 2017 and 2019. In that time, he served as a marksman three point shooter and steady veteran presence for an extremely young team.
When the time came to keep him around, the Sixers didn’t.
This week, Redick appeared on All The Smoke with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson. He covered a lot of topics, but one of the more intriguing ones was his feelings on the Sixers.
“They f—ed up not bringing me back, man,” he said.
“I think they probably realized they needed a little more shooting,” he continued.
“The thing with me in Philly though, it wasn’t just about the shooting. You need people in the locker room. You need those guys. I’m friends, I was literally was texting with Ben [Simmons] and Jo[el Embiid] the other day. We don’t consider the relationship part of things as much as we should.”
Barnes, for his part, agreed that Philly made a mistake by not bringing Redick back.
“I completely agree,” he said.
“I agree 1000% and that’s what people don’t get. You’re not a star, but you’re a glue, consistent guy that knocks down shots and you need that, especially with [Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons].”
Redick is currently on a two-year deal with the New Orleans Pelicans. Last season, he recorded the second best three point shooting percentage of his career.
Needless to say, Philly probably could have used him in 2019-20.
