Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Rumors: The Heat and Trail Blazers Are the Two Real Favorites

The Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors are about to take over the NBA offseason. The Heat and the Trail Blazers are reportedly the two teams most actively pushing for him. One of those names makes sense. The other does not.
NBC Sports reported this week that Miami and Portland are the two clubs most aggressively pursuing the two-time MVP. Marc Stein then added that Antetokounmpo has reportedly identified Miami as the only team he would sign a long-term extension with if he is traded. That is a big tell. Antetokounmpo controls this process the way every modern superstar does, and he wants Miami.
The Heat have spent the past three offseasons positioning for exactly this scenario. They have Bam Adebayo, who is one of the only centers in the league who can guard Giannis at full speed. They have Tyler Herro coming off another All-Star season. They have draft picks and salary filler. Pat Riley has been waiting for this since 2019. The fit is real.
Portland is the surprise. The Trail Blazers have a new ownership group that wants to make a splash. They have Scoot Henderson, Donovan Clingan, and a stack of draft picks. Antetokounmpo could choose to give them a chance and immediately become the second-best player on a young roster that he can mentor. ESPN noted that there is “no way” Giannis is jumping to a play-in team in the West, but new ownership groups will try anything once.
The Cavaliers are also lurking. Cleveland got swept by the Knicks in the second round. There are reports that some in the front office are willing to discuss any package as long as Evan Mobley is in it. Other voices in the building have been described as “vehemently” against trading Mobley. That is a real split, and it could blow up the Cavaliers’ offseason if Koby Altman tries to force a move.
The Bucks have made it clear they are willing to listen. Co-owner Wes Edens previously said the team wanted a resolution by the draft. The 2026 NBA Draft starts June 23. That is a hard deadline that everyone in the league is now circling.
The Bucks roster is not deep enough to compete. Damian Lillard has been hurt and the team has nothing in the pipeline. Khris Middleton is gone. The Bucks have to either go all in on Antetokounmpo by finding him another star, or trade him while he still has peak years left. There is no middle ground.
What this means for the league is the entire Eastern Conference power balance could shift before July 1. If Giannis goes to Miami, the Heat are immediately the team to beat in the East. The Knicks are still good. The Cavs are still loaded. But Miami with Adebayo, Antetokounmpo, and Herro is a Finals team the moment the trade clears.
The wild scenario nobody is talking about: what if Antetokounmpo just stays in Milwaukee? He has said in the past that he loves the city, the franchise, and the fan base. If the Bucks add the right piece in the draft and find a way to get a third star, this entire conversation gets put on hold for a year.
Don’t bet on it. The Heat want him. He wants Miami. The deal is going to get done by the end of June, and the NBA offseason is about to get crazy.
