Draymond Green does not do quiet feuds, and his back-and-forth with Josh Hart just got a lot louder.
The Warriors forward jumped on Threads on Thursday to fire back at Hart, who criticized Green over an old clip that resurfaced this week. In the two-year-old video, Green questioned why Jalen Brunson took less money to stay with the Knicks and suggested role players like Hart should be the ones taking pay cuts to play alongside stars.
Hart’s response, posted a few days back, was to tell Green to stop counting other people’s pockets. That was enough to get Draymond fully engaged.
“Dude waited 2 years to respond to that video from 520? Why not say it then?” Green wrote. “Let’s normalize not front runnin and talking while you up. Be on the same type of time AT ALL TIMES!”
That is a very Draymond response. He is not wrong that the timing looks convenient. Hart’s criticism landed after the Knicks won a title with Brunson’s discount contract making it easier to build depth around him. Hart’s comment lands different when his team just cashed in on the exact strategy Green mocked.
But Green is also missing the obvious counterpoint here. Hart probably never even saw the original video when Green made it in 2024. Old clips resurface on social media all the time, and players react when they finally see them. This is not some grand strategic timing move by Hart. It is just how the internet works now.
The bigger picture is what makes this interesting. Green built his whole talking-head career on the idea that role players should sacrifice for stars, not the other way around. That worked when Golden State was winning titles with Steph Curry taking every important shot. It looks worse now that stars taking pay cuts to help their teams is becoming a real trend.
Victor Wembanyama reportedly plans to take less than the max on his next contract. Nikola Jokic did the same in Denver. Anthony Edwards has signaled the same interest. The Brunson blueprint is spreading, and it is spreading because it works.
Green will keep defending his original position because that is what Green does. He has never been wrong on a podcast in his entire life, according to Draymond himself. But the results are backing up the guys who take less, not the guys who demand every dollar.
The Warriors just went out and re-signed Green to a one-year, $27.7 million deal after he initially opted out. So he is not exactly practicing what he preaches when it comes to team-first sacrifice.
This is the kind of beef that will simmer all season. When the Warriors play the Knicks in December, expect an incident. Draymond is not going to let Hart get another shot in without a hard foul or a shove somewhere. Hart is going to say something on his podcast. Round three is coming.
That is good business for both guys. Both make content for a living now. Both need engagement. Both are willing to say things in public that would get most players in trouble. The NBA is entertainment, and this is entertaining.
