Brian Windhorst appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter this Sunday and offered some insight into the growing tension between the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James.
With his team boasting a 26-25 mark 51 games into the year, James is understandably frustrated.
In recent days he has expressed said frustration repeatedly.

Then, when asked about it by the media, this is how James reacted:
On Sunday, Windhorst offered some clarity on the growing tension between James and the Lakers. After saying that “we’re about an ‘8’ on the ‘LeBron Passive Aggressive Trade Deadline’ time scale,” he then revealed how L.A. brass is responding.
“The Lakers to this point, from what I am told by sources, have not reacted to LeBron’s maneuvers, including wearing the Knicks towel last night, and they have kind of held firm in their talks,” he said on Sunday’s edition of SportsCenter.
“The issue with the Lakers is they have only a couple of draft assets left, and they just want to hold onto them.”
It will be interesting to see where the Lakers ultimately go from here. In recent days the team has been linked to one key role player, one of the league’s best sharpshooters and a former Sixth Man of the Year winner.

That said – it is unclear if any of those moves are big enough to legitimately alter the course of their season.
Of course, at this point, anything feels better than doing nothing. And that is likely James’ position. He doesn’t care about the organization’s future; that is someone else’s problem.
Will the Lakers acquiesce to James and make a big deal ahead of the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline? Time will tell.
