The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Dallas Mavericks 138-115 on Friday evening.

Anthony Davis recorded 28 points on 10-of-16 shooting (including three three-pointers), eight rebounds, five assists, two steals in 30 minutes of action. Montrezl Harrell recorded 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting, seven rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 29 minutes off the bench.

That said, both men’s stellar play isn’t what stole the show on Christmas Day. Rather, what stole the show was Harrell’s choice of footwear and Davis’ reaction to it.

Insane shoes notwithstanding, Harrell has been incredibly impressive in his first two games as a Laker. And everyone, including team head coach Frank Vogel, has taken notice.

“He catches everything and he finishes everything,” Vogel said.

“He’s just a talented guy when he rolls to the basket, offensive rebounds, and he’s got a great knack for those push shots. That’s the reason why he’s the Sixth Man of the Year last year and the reason why we picked him up.”

Harrell signed a two-year, $19 million deal with the Lakers this past offseason after winning the Sixth Man of the Year award with the Los Angeles Clippers last year.

Most observers felt like the Lakers got a major steal as far as value went, and Harrell is confirming it with his play.
